The Hellenic Recovery Recycling Corporation (HERRCO), a key player in Packaging Recycling for the past 24 years, launched a comprehensive 360° communication campaign on the occasion of World Environment Day. This new campaign strengthens HERRCO’s ongoing efforts to raise environmental awareness, aiming to inform, sensitize, and activate citizens across the country on the importance of properly using the Blue Bins and Blue Bells. Through each of its initiatives, the campaign highlights the value of personal responsibility and the importance of daily choices in favor of Packaging Recycling—a choice that contributes significantly to reducing waste, protecting the environment, and managing natural resources sustainably.

The campaign is built around three main pillars, designed to cultivate knowledge, highlight the environmental benefits of Packaging Recycling, and encourage responsible behavior. The first pillar focuses on what we recycle, providing clear and understandable information about the materials that should be placed in the Blue Bins and Blue Bells, such as paper, plastic, aluminum, tinplate, and glass. The second pillar highlights why we recycle, focusing on the environmental benefits of Packaging Recycling, such as reducing the volume of waste, conserving natural resources, and contributing to the reduction of CO₂ emissions. The third pillar concentrates on how we recycle properly, offering simple and easy-to-follow instructions for correct sorting and disposal of packaging materials in the Blue Bins, in order to ensure the quality of Packaging Recycling and reduce residue.

The campaign unfolds across a wide range of media and communication channels to ensure its messages reach the largest possible audience. Specifically, it includes a strong presence in:

  • Digital Media (articles and native content)
  • Print Media (advertisements)
  • Radio Stations (mentions)
  • Outdoor Advertising on a metro train throughout the month of June
  • Local actions in collaboration with municipalities across the country
  • A central event at the National Garden on June 5, in cooperation with the City of Athens

Mr. Michael E. Economakis, Chairman of HERRCO, stated: “At the heart of our strategy lies the information and awareness of citizens regarding the proper use of the Blue Bins and Blue Bells, aiming to promote sustainability and strengthen the circular economy. We are especially pleased with the active response and participation of both young and old in the actions we implement in collaboration with municipalities in every corner of the country. With consistency and systematic effort, we work steadily to strengthen citizens’ environmental awareness and to spread the message of Packaging Recycling. We are committed to continuing our work with dedication, staying true to our vision of a green future for the generations to come.”
